Career tracks

Three tracks. One firm.

Bailey hires into three tracks — Engineering, Land Planning, and Operations — and each one has a clear path from day one to leadership.

Track 01

Engineering

From Engineer in Training to Professional Engineer to technical leadership — a track built around real projects, real judgment, and real ownership.

  1. 01

    Engineer in Training (EIT)

Run submissions, learn the Treasure Valley code landscape, get exposed to every phase of a project.

  2. 02

    Project Engineer

Own project scope, lead client calls, coordinate with agencies and clients directly.

  3. 03

    Professional Engineer (PE)

Sign and seal the work, mentor the next EIT, shape how Bailey delivers civil engineering.

  4. 04

    Chief of Engineers

Set the technical direction for the firm, own quality across every engagement.

Track 02

Land Planning

From planner to lead entitler to public-facing project owner — the track for people who love the political and procedural side of getting land approved.

  1. 01

    Land Use Planner

Research code, draft applications, attend hearings, learn the rhythm of every Treasure Valley city.

  2. 02

    Senior Planner

Lead entitlement strategy on multiple projects, run neighborhood meetings, coordinate with agency staff.

  3. 03

    Planning Lead

Own the planning program — methodology, training, how Bailey represents its clients in front of city councils.

Track 03

Operations

Drafting, project coordination, intake, AI tooling — the track for people who make the firm run. Progression is measured by the systems you build and the friction you remove.

  1. 01

    Draftsman / Coordinator

Learn the tools, learn the projects, learn how Bailey actually works.

  2. 02

    Senior Coordinator

Own a workflow end-to-end. Build the tooling that makes everyone else faster.

  3. 03

    Operations Lead

Own how the firm runs day-to-day. Partner with leadership on how Bailey scales without breaking.

How growth actually happens

The four pillars of a Bailey career.

01

Mentorship from working engineers

You learn from PEs who are actively running projects, not a committee of retired reviewers. Pair programming, shadowing, and real-time feedback are the default.

02

Progression by judgment, not tenure

We promote when you're ready — not when the calendar says you are. The path is transparent, the milestones are real, and the decisions get made by people who actually see your work.

03

AI as a force multiplier

Every Bailey engineer gets access to the same AI tooling leadership uses. You're expected to make the work faster and better — and to teach the rest of the team what you find.

04

A culture that protects deep work

We don't believe in performative meetings, busywork status reports, or 'just checking in' Slacks. Your time is how Bailey delivers — we protect it like an asset.

Culture

What it actually feels like to work here.

Bailey is a small firm that gets to pick its work. That means you'll be on projects that matter, with clients who remember your name, and a team small enough that your judgment gets used — not just your hours.

We take deep work seriously. We take each other seriously. We don't take meetings that should have been an email. If you want to do the best work of your career in a place that values the people doing it, this is the firm.
